Listen now (60 min) | Darby Saxbe is a professor at USC and holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology. Her research includes studying the effects of stress hormones in couples and most importantly the changes that the male brain undergoes after becoming a parent. She has scientifically discovered slight gray matter loss in men following fatherhood and termed it Dad Brain. She is currently writing a book about her research. She’s also a wife, musician in a Mom Band and mother of two kids! In our conversation today we discussed:
Thank you Darby and Adam. I am really interested in Neuroscience but hadn't looked at this area at all. The bad mood contagion particularly resonated.
When my first child was born I felt there was definitely a fundamental change in me.
I felt that at a core level and its a very vivid memory.
I definitely support "more Dad research". I live in Finland which has had positive paternity rights for a long time so happy to prod any University researchers I know to look at this area. Looking forward to the book. Thanks for sharing!
